Mary Ann's Never Fail Banana Cake

This is a "never-fail" recipe that always turns out well. - Mary Ann

Cake Ingredients:
  • 2-1/4 cups flour
  • 1-2/3 cups sugar
  • 1-1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1-1/4 tsp soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening or butter
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk (or add 2 tsp vinegar to normal milk)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1-1/4 cup mashed bananas
  • 2/3 cup chopped nuts
Vanilla Butter Frosting Ingredients:
  • 1/3 cup soft butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1-1/2 tsp vanilla 
  • 2 Tbsp milk

Instructions:
  • Blend all cake ingredients for 1/2 minute at low speed.
  • Beat 3 minutes on highest speed.
  • Bake in 9x13 pan at 350° for 45-50 minutes.
  • Mix frosting ingredients with beater until smooth. Spread over cooled cake.
